I flew to California to climb Mt. Shasta as a training climb for Mt. Elbrus in Russia.

The first photograph in this gallery was taken from a rock outcrop 2,000 feet below the summit of Mt. Elbrus.  Another 1,000 feet up, high winds near to top forced our team to turn back, so I didn't make it to the top.

Mt. Elbert is the highest mountain in Colorado.  It is accessible via the Colorado Trail near Twin Lakes, Colorado.  I attempted to climb the mountain on a trip to Colorado.  But I was there in May, and deep snow made the going difficult and route-finding impossible for me.

Mesa Verde is a group of ancient Pueblo dwellings.

Not many places are as iconic as the Grand Canyon.  I've been there a number of times and camped along the Colorado River in the canyon.

These photos are from a backpacking trip to the 100-Mile Wilderness along the Appalachian Trail in Maine.  This was my second trip backpacking this section, and my friend Jim "Handyman" Woods and my nephew Dustin "Dustbuster" Pruitt-Ingriola came along.
